CALDWELL, Idaho (CBS2) — Canyon County Sheriff's Office reports that the body of a missing and endangered Caldwell man has been recovered from a canal early Wednesday morning.
Tuesday afternoon around 2:30 p.m. 85-year-old Jay Hartsock was reported missing after not returning home from a fishing trip near the lower dam on Lake Lowell.
At around 6:00 a.m. Wednesday morning Deputies discovered Hartsock's body in a canal near Hwy 19 and Allendale Rd. Deputies believe Hartsock was fishing and accidentally entered the swift-moving canal water below the dam and died as "a result of accidental drowning."
“My heart goes out to the family and friends of Mr. Hartsock. This is obviously not the result any of us were hoping for,” said Sheriff Kieran Donahue. “I want to thank the other agencies and the irrigation district who assisted us in both our search and recovery efforts.”
