BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — A fire started Monday at the old Valley View Elementary building.Three ladder trucks and ten engines responded with the first arriving at the fire within four minutes of the call.
The building was being demolished when the fire started, according to Boise Fire. There's a new school right next to the old one. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the old school. It did not spread to the new school or any other nearby structures.
Aaron Hummel, Division Chief of Operations, says a fire line was dug to contain the fire within the old building. A drone with infrared technology was also used to assess the spread of the fire.
A bulldozer was brought in to tear down the old building. Hummel said area notifications were sent out to neighborhoods, but no evacuations were issued.
Two minor injuries were reported from construction workers and were treated by paramedics on the scene.
Six firefighters were treated for heat-related problems. Two of the six firefighters were taken to the hospital for further treatment, one has since been released.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
