After being off the grid and limelight for more than a month, Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton made an appearance this week during a school initiative. But the driver refrained from making any comments on Michael Masi, the events that unfolded during the finale in Abu Dhabi, and most importantly, on his future in F1.
While an investigation into the decisions made by the race director Michael Masi is already underway, Hamilton believes that he got snubbed of an eight title. And, he has made this very clear by saying nothing at all.
Lewis Hamilton’s influence and power
Lewis Hamilton boasts about 27 million Instagram followers and 8 million Twitter followers. He has an unreal presence and influence in the F1 community, given the stature earned by winning the WDC title seven times. Bleekemolen believes that Hamilton has made his point and stance clear. Hamilton’s opinion is well known now, and everybody’s talking about it, says Jeroen.
“Hamilton is trying to increase the pressure on the FIA motorsport federation and is powerful. I think he wants to get some people out of there, like race director Michael Masi.
It’s said that FIA’s decision on Michael Masi is one of the factors that will help Lewis make the call on his F1 future.
“Lewis wants to turn it upside down. He can do that. He has a lot of influence as the greatest of all. Some people will disappear.”
“They have to intervene and make changes. The FIA has to come up with a good story, otherwise, Hamilton’s first words will not be what the F1 leadership would like to hear.”
Given the chaos and unprecedented decisions taken during the race, Bleekemolen added- “His silence illustrates the enormous frustration. It underlines the need for the FIA to change things. Saying nothing is more impressive than all the things Lewis could have said. The ball is in the FIA’s court.”
Bleekemolen’s expectations from Hamilton
When asked whether he expects Hamilton to race this year or not, Bleekemoeln said, “I expect and hope he continues. It’s more fun when he’s there
“Lewis is driven and good enough to last a few more years. He also sees that eighth World title.”
Jeroen’s stance on Masi’s infamous decision
Bleekemolen doesn’t think that Masi made the wrong call.
He commented- “It’s a shame and a bit bland,” he added. “There was no conscious attack on Hamilton. It just happened that way. Race director Masi decided to restart the race because in his eyes that suited the situation. Not to annoy Lewis.”
